Rona Commins
RONA COMMINS, soprano,has sung to critical acclaim in Europe
and the United States. She has been characterized as “an enormous
talent” (Mezz’agosto Musicale, Italy) with “a voice of striking beauty”
and “spectacular technique” (Paedagogische Akademie, Austria).
During studies with Tito Gobi at the Villa Schifanoia in Florence,
Italy, Ms. Commins was awarded the bronze medal in performance
at Moncioni. She is the regional winner of the San Francisco Opera
Auditions and the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Young Artist
auditions. Holder of a master’s degree in music, Ms. Commins has
sung under conductors Baldo Podic (Chicago Opera), George Poselle
(Metropolitan Opera), and Craig Ruttenberg (Glyndebourne) and
has coached with Nico Castel and Joan Dornemann. Ms. Commins
made her Sacramento debut at the inauguration of the Sacramento
Community Center Theater singing the role of Violetta and she has
been a featured soloist with the Sacramento Symphony, Camellia
Symphony, Sacramento Ballet, and the CSU, Sacramento and UC
Davis Symphonies. Her performances with Capitol Chamber Players
have been featured on KXPR Capitol Concerts. Ms. Commins has
taught for CSU, Sacramento; CSU, San Francisco;, American River
College and Brigham Young University. She has led Art and Music
study tours to Florence, Paris, London and Madrid for the past 23 years
and maintains a private studio of voice students.
